Slumdog portrayed the shady part of India, which tastes bad for us. Some years back, Oscar went to Juno, Crash, etc.. they portrayed American issues like teenage pregnancy, racism, etc. After seeing these movies, one can say America is uncultured and racist. Well... :) Narrow minded people are keen to base their opinion on flimsy facts. They don't need a movie to nick-name anybody.
Moreover ARR and Pookutty deserved the Oscar just for the quality of their work. It augurs well for the movie business in India. World over, movie makers can choose to come to India with little staff and source their work from the Indian counterparts. Also as the Indian influence grows, the misconception about India shrinks.
Long back, Indianajones had portrayed mantriks and maharajas in very poor light. India was a land of snake charmers to foreigners. People have come out of it now. Now they expect a burgeoning population where they can buy brains or to which they can sell their wares.
And anyway, the tide turns when American economy recovers. They will dwell less on losing jobs to India and be more eager to sell their cars and ipods and soft drinks and arms to Indians.
don't know whether they call indian as slumdog or not but here american stores and pub's starting saying Jai Ho .. was at a american store (AE) looking at price tag better than the clothes suddenly the whole store was surrounded with hindi words .. Jai ho. then as usual hit the bar on friday nite .. after couple of peg .. sexy ladies were dancing for Jai Ho number. feels great to see american(specially kallus) dance on a hindi song.
World wide, with this movie India gets a nick name as "Slumdog".

Now, knowing this, should Rehman return it or keep it?
